Truck-makers Rivian, Lion urge Pritzker to speed phaseout of gas and diesel-fuel engines

Two electric truck makers with Illinois operations are pressuring Gov. J.B. Pritzker to dedicate to more intense point out policies that stage out significant gas and diesel-motor motor vehicles.

Rivian, with virtually 6,000 workers in Normal, and Lion Electric powered, which is starting to construct electric university buses in Joliet, together with 14 other corporations related to electric cars and clean up strength, sent a letter urging Pritzker to set specific targets for removing polluting trucks, buses and other large autos.

Pritzker has touted electric powered automobiles as a big financial option for Illinois, and very last calendar year signed into legislation new tax credits and other incentives to bring extra producing to the state, promising “thousands of employment.”

In a letter to the governor Thursday, the companies requested Pritzker to go more and commit to a remarkable lower in the sale of diesel cars by 2030 and a pledge that by 2050 all new medium- to significant-responsibility vehicles offered in Illinois will be zero-emission types. A lot more than a dozen states have signed a nonbinding settlement stating all those targets, but so considerably, Pritzker has determined not to be a part of them.
